FreeTransformation Tuesday is a community-driven online series examining the ways race and racism impact every aspect of our lives, and what we as a community can do to change and transform it.
This month’s panel, moderated by Jerry Hawkins, will focus on the impact of race, racism, and racial equity in the gentrification of Dallas.
About the Panelists:
Collin Yarbrough is a Dallas native and current PhD student at SMU’s Lyle School of Engineering. His research and advocacy work is centered at the intersection of racial, environmental, and economic justice, infrastructure development, and community engagement. Collin is passionate about engaging in narrative change within Dallas’ built environment and recently published a book about infrastructure inequality in Dallas, “Paved a Way: Infrastructure, Policy, and Racism in an American City.”
Jonathan Maples, Maples Family Foundation, is a five-decade resident of Elm Thicket-Northpark. He works to ensure that the name and history of Elm Thicket Northpark never goes away, even as they fight the attempted hostile takeover of Elm Thicket Northpark, disguised as gentrification.
