The Slave Dwelling Project is returning to North Texas this weekend, bringing forward the stories of the enslaved African Americans at Millermore & the Gano Farmstead, located at @dallasheritagevillage! Swipe for a schedule of events.

Based in South Carolina, The Slave Dwelling Project’s mission is to identify and assist property owners, government agencies and organizations to preserve extant slave dwellings. This is done primarily through public programming, including sleeping overnight in these buildings.

The Slave Dwelling Project and continuing the project’s mission is made possible by the collaborative efforts of Dallas Truth, Racial Healing, & Transformation, Dallas County Justice Initiative, Remembering Black Dallas, Soul Rep Theatre, and the Irving Archives and Museum.

Asami Robledo-Allen Yamamoto, a Mexican-American Museum educator currently serving as the Community Engagement Coordinator at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended the University of North Texas for her BFA and MA in Art Education with a Certification in Art Museum Education.

Teresa Coleman Wash, a producer, writer, and founding artistic director for the Bishop Arts Theatre Center whose mission is to cultivate a diverse and vibrant arts community while creating opportunities for local and emerging artists through performance and education. She holds an MA in Arts Management from Goucher College and a BBA in Busines Administration from Albany State University.

Jessica Fuentes, an artist, educator, community advocate, and museum consultant. She received her BA in Art & Performance from the University of Texas at Dallas (2004) and her MA in Art Education with a Museum Certificate from the University of North Texas (2013). She has worked at the Dallas Museum of Art and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art and is currently a freelance museum consultant.

Marta Torres, the Manager of Partnerships and Transformation for Dallas TRHT. She received a MA in Art Education, from Caribbean University in 2016, and a BA in History from the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey in 2014. She has created educational content for all ages as a Museum Educator and Coordinator in various esteemed institutions in DFW. Marta is currently pursuing her PhD in Education with Baylor University.
